OUR FAIRTRADE COFFEES
All our Fairtrade coffees comply with the international standards of Fairtrade Labelling Organisations, and bear the Fairtrade Mark accordingly. Buy any Fairtrade coffee and you will be helping to improve the working and living conditions of farmers in Africa, Asia and Latin America. But by buying through ecocoffee you will also know specifically which farmers and communities you are helping. From 1 June 2008, the Fairtrade minimum price for all Arabica coffees increased to ensure that farmers continue to receive a price which covers the cost of sustainable production. Producers receive a guaranteed minimum price of at least US $1.25 per pound of Fairtrade certified Arabica coffee and US $1.20 for unwashed Arabica coffee, or the market price, if that is higher. In accordance with the Fairtrade model, producer organisations will also continue to receive an additional Fairtrade Premium of 10 cents per pound for investment in community and business improvements. For organic Fairtrade certified coffee an additional minimum differential of 20 cents is applied. All of the Fairtrade coffees that we buy for ecocoffee branded products (except the Costa Rican sold in kilo packs only) are organic and the higher minimum price has therefore applied. In all, the farmers are receiving $1.55 for almost all the coffee we use for our own products. The Colombian Decaff' is made using Fairtrade Organic Arabica beans, but the decaf' process is not organic so the decaf' coffee is not sold as organically certified. The June price adjustment by Fairtrade Labelling Organisations International (FLO) means that farmers will receive an average increase of US$ 5 cents per pound on their coffee. This will benefit more than 250 producer organisations across the developing world - around one million farmers and their families.
