OUR RAINFOREST ALLIANCE COFFEES

The Rainforest Alliance is an American based organisation, not as well known in the UK as the Fairtrade Foundation, but with very similar objectives and standards.  The method and philosophy by which they seek to achieve the objectives though is different, being willing to work closely with profit orientated coffee companies if strict standards are met.

Their stated mission is "to protect ecosystems and the people and wildlife that depend on them by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behaviour." 

The companies, cooperatives and landowners that participate in Rainforest Alliance programmes must meet rigorous standards that conserve biodiversity and provide sustainable livelihoods. Rainforest Alliance certification allows small farmers to distinguish their coffee and command higher prices. They must though do their bit to protect natural plants and animals, and treat their workers fairly.

N.B.  Our Rainforest Alliance single origin* coffees are all 100% Rainforest Alliance - not as little as 30% as are some branded coffees.   If this is of moment to you, look carefully at labels in the shops.  Ask questions on the Internet!
