ABOUT THE COFFEE AND THE FARMERS

The Gethumbwini Estate has been renowned for over 80 years for producing some of Africa's very finest coffees.  The Estate is just north of Nairobi, near Thika, South Central Kenya at about 1700 metres above sea level.  This, the regional climate, and the rich red volcanic soil make ideal conditions for production of the finest quality Bourbon Arabica coffees.

The Estate occupies over 1000 acres in a dramatic setting in the foothills of the Aberdare Ranges overlooking the Chania River.  The 100 full time and 200 part time workers enjoy excellent working conditions including accommodation with electricity and clean drinking water, schools and health clinic facilities actually on the farm.

The Estate has a well developed and carefully nurtured ecology and wildlife diversity, including hippopotamus!
